The SEMCA Michigan Works Center for Central Wayne County is operated by the Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) located in Dearborn. ACCESS is a non-profit organization that was started nearly 29 years ago as a volunteer, “grass roots” movement aimed at bringing services to the Metro Detroit community. ACCESS has grown to five facilities offering 45 different programs.
Whether you’re a veteran who has recently transitioned to life in the civilian world, or a consumer facing economic challenges, having a trusted, well-informed advisor can increase your odds of success. Our financial coaching initiative will provide guidance to recently-transitioned veterans and vulnerable families in places where they’re already going for help. We’ve joined forces with the DOL and more than two dozen non-profit social-services providers to place 60 certified coaches in DOL American Job Centers and community-centered non-profits across the country. These professionals will provide one-on-one free coaching to help these consumers craft a personalized plan for financial success. EDSI (Educational Data Systems, Inc.) operates the WIOA and PATH programs and Business Services at the Livonia Michigan Works! American Job Center. EDSI is a national workforce development, talent solutions and consulting company with a passion for helping great companies and communities train and retain great people. Founded in 1979 and headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan, EDSI employs more than 800 people across the country and operates more than 70 contracts providing successful business services and jobseeker placement and retention services.
Employment & Training Designs, Inc. (ETD) provides job training and placement services through federal and state funded programs, and operates the SEMCA Michigan Works Centers in Highland Park and Wayne. These centers provide information and referral for employers and employment/training assistance to all residents of local communities. ETD offers a customer-friendly, easy-access service to individuals who need assistance with employment, training and community resource needs. ETD has been serving the community successfully for many years. Staff is dedicated to assisting in "Matching People with Jobs" and working hard to provide a blend of services that can be offered to the employer and job seeker. Services are FREE, convenient and accessible.
Great Start Collaborative-Wayne (GSC-W) is a collaboration of service providers, parents, business and community leaders, and educators who are working together to link and enhance services for families of children from birth through age five in order to ensure that they all have a great start. All of our children deserve a healthy foundation so that every child is ready to succeed in school and in life. GSC-W is part of an impressive state-wide system funded by public and private dollars through the Early Childhood Investment Corporation. It is designed to guide efforts in every Michigan county to strengthen and align supports and services for our very youngest citizens; babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Research has shown, time and time again, that children who are given a great start are much more likely to grow into caring, responsible, productive adults.
MCETD operates the SEMCA Michigan Works Center for Monroe County. The Center offers a set of core services to all customers who want them, without eligibility requirements. MCETD also works to meet the personnel needs of area employers at no cost. MCETD provides employers, workers and job seekers a “One Stop” system that eliminates the confusion and burden of multiple agencies by co-locating services from workforce development programs in one place. Both Employment Services and services under the Workforce Investment Act are offered at the Monroe Service Center. Adjoining the Monroe Service Center is the Work First office where all Welfare Reform programs are administered.
The Southeast Michigan Community Alliance (SEMCA) is one of 25 Michigan Works agencies created by the state to simplify public and business access to important educational, training, self-help and economic development opportunities. To make the system work, SEMCA provides initial contact and assessment services and then either refers the caller to one of several One-Stop Centers or directly to the appropriate service provider. The SEMCA system case manages every customer to ensure that their personal plan is successful.
SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, is a membership organization of local governments. SEMCOG works with local elected leaders to help solve regional issues that extend beyond individual governmental boundaries, advocating for the good of Southeast Michigan and its citizens, and the wise use of taxpayer dollars. SEMCOG’s region includes Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties. SEMCOG supports local government planning on regional issues in the areas of transportation, environment, community and economic development, and education. SEMCOG assists local governments and educational institutions in planning for common needs and in recognizing regional opportunities. Policy decisions are made by local elected officials of SEMCOG’s member governments, ensuring that regional policies reflect the interests and concerns of member communities.
Serving since 1967, SMART is southeast Michigan’s only regional public transportation provider, offering convenient, reliable and safe transportation for Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties. SMART’s fixed-route and small bus services connect people to employment and educational institutions. SMART is supported by federal and state funding, local contributions through a transit property tax millage from opt-in communities and bus fares.
